Thank You, Btrieve Fans
Pervasive wants to thank all of you who shared your thoughts and memories of Btrieve over the years. So many of you hit the nail on the head: Btrieve® is really an amazing database. It just keeps going.
We just enjoyed celebrating a very important anniversary – our 25th birthday – which would have been impossible without the ongoing support of our customers. Our focus has always been to provide embedded databases for business users who want to concentrate on running their business instead of managing their database. That focus, and the continued involvement of our customer base in developing and testing the next version, helped make Pervasive PSQL the product it is today.
In 1982 we started on DOS. Then Windows, NetWare, OS/2, NT, and Linux came along. Vista is next. Get ready for 25 more years.
Kind regards,
Gilbert Van Cutsem
General Manager, Database Group

PSQL RADIO: Jim B. Talks about a Birthday, a Beta and a DDF Builder!
The Pervasive PSQL world is hopping these days, and in his "audio blog" this month, PSQL Product Manager Jim Beecher (aka Jim B.) brings us up to date.
First, he tells us about some the latest goings on with the big Btrieve 25th Anniversary, which features a number of activities including the Btrieve Time Machine Web site, a special product promotion, a recent party (with lots of candles!) and more.
Jim also announces Pervasive's new PSQL Provider for ADO.NET 2.0, which allows developers to work with the Microsoft 2.0 and 3.0 frameworks to develop applications using 100% managed provider, and to take advantage of the feature sets of that platform.
And speaking of Microsoft, he reminds listeners of Pervasive's white paper on Windows Vista Compatibility with PSQL v9. Apparently, users are quite interested in the topic, as downloads are running hundreds per week.
And last but not least, Jim piques listeners' interest by alerting them to the fact that Pervasive is close to releasing an updated version of our Data Dictionary File ... or DDF Builder, which allows developers and users the ability to create and modify the necessary metadata structure of the Pervasive PSQL data files for full relational access. Stay tuned for the breaking news!
So lend Jim B. an ear – it'll be worth your time.

Pervasive Customers Showing Increased Interest in Windows Vista
Pervasive, as discussed in PSQL Radio, is seeing a trend in increased download activity for Pervasive PSQL for Windows Vista resources and questions from customers. Anticipating that interest will only increase in the months ahead, we offer newsletter readers a chance to download our white paper Pervasive® PSQL v9 Compatibility with Windows Vista to learn about suggested solutions and configuration options.
Again, Pervasive Software is pleased to announce compatibility and support for Windows Vista for Pervasive PSQL v9 Server and Workgroup editions. However, please note that prior versions of Pervasive.SQL will not be supported. Moving forward, our next release of Pervasive PSQL, v10, is currently scheduled for the second half of 2007 and will incorporate full Windows Vista support and compatibility. The v10 release will offer our customers a smooth and seamless transition to Microsoft's Vista and Longhorn platforms.
Tech Tip: Configuring the BTRBOX requester to work with Windows Vista
If you're using a PSQL v9 DOS application with Windows Vista, here's a tip that will make your job simpler.
If you're one of the many customers moving to Windows Vista, you may have seen a Status 20 (the Microkernel or Btrieve Router is inactive) notice when trying to run your DOS application with Pervasive PSQL v9 on Windows Vista. The problem is that Windows Vista requires a few extra steps to get your client requester working properly.
