Century 21 Mike Bowman, Inc.

"Because of Pervasive.SQL, the amount of business we've been able to handle has noticeably increased. Even our property management company has been more efficient. But the biggest improvement is in IT-our administration activities have disappeared. Short of backups (and even those are automatic), I do nothing. I can't remember the last time I stopped or started the Pervasive.SQL daemon. I would have to say that I am Pervasive's biggest fan."

-Michael Owens, CTO
Century 21 Mike Bowman

About Century 21 Mike Bowman
Located in the growing Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Century 21 Mike Bowman is the number one office in the Century 21 franchise (in terms of closed transactions), and has earned this distinction eight times in the past nine years. It's the second most productive real estate office in the country and serves buyers and sellers of both small suburban homes and multimillion-dollar estates.

Business Challenge
The IT department at Century 21 Mike Bowman needed a multi-user accounting system that supported development of third-party accounting software packages. But more importantly, they needed a low-maintenance, cost-effective database that would run on their newly adopted Linux platform and mirror its stability.

Pervasive.SQL Business Solution
The IT staff had tried other databases, but none had met their needs. They settled on Pervasive.SQL 2000, knowing of its Linux support. The reliable Pervasive.SQL engine has been the perfect complement to their new systems. "Although I wouldn't do it, I could leave the system totally unmonitored for three months, and come back to find things no different than when I left," said Michael Owens, CTO at Century 21 Mike Bowman. "That's how reliable Linux and Pervasive are." But it wasn't long before the staff realized Pervasive.SQL's Linux support was only part of its value. "Our primary need was for Linux support. But having seen Pervasive.SQL's solid design, ease of administration and tremendous performance, we're considering using it for our in-house applications-intranet, Internet, and our proprietary tools-as well," described Owens.

Like most growing companies, Century 21 Mike Bowman also appreciated Pervasive.SQL's cost-saving capabilities, evidenced not only in the low cost of the software, but also in Pervasive.SQL's striking simplicity, eliminating the need for a dedicated database administrator. "Pervasive.SQL is a serious database at an affordable price. I believe we can safely throw heavy loads on this database and not have to worry about it snapping. And it seems to be able to comfortably scale as far as we could ever need. We needed real power at an affordable price, and Pervasive.SQL gave us exactly that," said Owens.

Bottom Line
In Pervasive.SQL 2000, the Century 21 Mike Bowman staff found a multi-threaded, stable, low-maintenance, Linux-compatible data management system-and it fit within their cost constraints. Pervasive.SQL 2000 has increased the staff's productivity and allowed them to explore more innovative ways to conduct their business. Century 21 Mike Bowman agents may soon be able to handle accounting and commission payouts over the Internet, thanks to the dependability of Linux and the flexible power of Pervasive.SQL 2000.
